Bruce Campbell is an award-winning underwater fine art photographer whose work explores movement, human presence and the visual transformation that occurs beneath the surface of the water.

His photography has received international competition recognition and has been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions across Europe and North America.

Ocean Art International Underwater Photography Competition

In the 2025 Ocean Art Underwater Photography Competition, Bruce Campbell received two honors in the Underwater Fashion category.

Angel Flying was awarded First Place, recognizing an image created during a fleeting underwater encounter in which movement, light and the flowing form of the model's costume aligned for only a moment.

Mermaid's Repose — Just Breathe received an Honorable Mention. Created through the same breath-held collaboration between photographer and model, the photograph explores stillness, vulnerability and the almost weightless quality of the human form underwater.

Both photographs were created with photographer and model working beneath the surface one breath at a time. Movement and communication become slower and largely nonverbal underwater, requiring preparation, trust and precise timing.

For Campbell, that process is central to the work.

“These images were created in moments where time seemed to slow,” Campbell said. “To have them recognized by Ocean Art affirms the idea that underwater photography can function not only as documentation, but as fine art.”

International Exhibition History

Campbell's work has also developed an expanding international exhibition history, with photographs presented in galleries and exhibitions across Europe and North America.

Award-winning works including Angel Flying and Just Breathe, together with other photographs from Campbell's underwater fine art portfolio, have been selected for international presentation. These exhibitions extend the work beyond the photographic competition world and place it within a contemporary fine-art setting where the photographs can be experienced as physical works.

Competition recognition and international exhibition together form part of the provenance of Campbell's limited-edition photographs and reflect the growing recognition of his underwater work beyond the United States.

From Underwater Encounter to Fine Art

Campbell's underwater photographs are created during real encounters in water rather than generated scenes. Water alters light, color, movement and perception, while the need to work within the physical limits of the underwater environment makes timing especially important.

Campbell's approach draws upon a lifetime spent in and around water and years of underwater photographic practice. The resulting photographs are produced as limited-edition fine art prints for private collectors, residential interiors and corporate collections.
